SHILLONG: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has clarified that no cabinet induction conditions were discussed when United Democratic Party (UDP) MLAs joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), dismissing reports of dissatisfaction among BJP members left out of the state cabinet.
Sangma emphasized that early discussions on the merger were confined to UDP legislators, with no negotiations about cabinet roles or requests made to the ruling administration.
While acknowledging recent requests for potential cabinet adjustments following the BJP’s growth from 2 to 10 MLAs, Sangma explained that limited cabinet slots make immediate restructuring difficult.
He assured that the government and ruling alliance remain committed to accommodating coalition partners in alternative roles as needed.
Addressing the induction of Bah Paul Lyngdoh into the cabinet, Sangma rejected suggestions of rifts within the National People’s Party (NPP), stating that party MLAs were consulted and the decision was broadly accepted.
He praised NPP legislators for prioritizing organizational interests over personal ambitions and reiterated the party’s unity and strength.
