SHILLONG: Meghalaya Minister Timothy D Shira has stated that he has no objections to the Chief Minister’s decision to take away the Tourism portfolio from him and allocate it to Paul Lyngdoh.
Paul Lyngdoh was recently sworn in as a cabinet minister on November 2, and confirmed that the Chief Minister wanted him to take back charge of the Tourism department.
Speaking to media persons, Timothy acknowledged that although the Chief Minister did not consult him prior to taking back the portfolio, he harbors no resentment or ill feelings.
He stated that Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma knows his mindset well and is aware of his dedication to the National People’s Party (NPP).
”Even though I was not consulted before any decision was taken, I have no problem accepting the change, because the Chief Minister understands my mindset and my dedication to my political party, the NPP,” Timothy said.
Regarding which department will be assigned to him next following the removal of the Tourism portfolio, Timothy mentioned that he does not know yet, as the matter rests entirely on the authority and decision of the Chief Minister.
”The Tourism department has already been taken away from me. I do not know yet which department will be given to me, because this is the prerogative of the Chief Minister. However, if any department is given to me, I will be satisfied. What I want is the opportunity to serve the public,” he stated.
Shira further added that their presence in the government is not for personal gain or profit, but with the primary goal of serving the public and working for the betterment of society.
“We are here not for personal benefit, but we are here to serve the public,” he expressed.
