SHILLONG: In a major move to alleviate congestion and improve public convenience, the Shillong Municipal Board has declared G.S. Road, Motphran, and Iewmawlong as strict “No Vending Zones.”
All street vending activities along these busy corridors are now prohibited, effective immediately.
The directive follows a comprehensive street vendor survey by the Town Vending Committee under the Meghalaya Street Vendors (Protection of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending) Scheme, 2023.
Eligible vendors have been instructed to relocate to the newly designated Ground Floor Parking Iewmawlong parking lot, where dedicated vending spaces and amenities are nearing completion.
Vendors with valid Certificates of Vending must shift their operations to the new vending zone by November 25, 2026.
The Board has warned that non-compliance will result in strict legal action, penalties, and confiscation of goods found in the prohibited areas after the deadline.
This notification was formally issued by the Chairperson of the Town Vending Committee and the Chief Executive Officer of the Shillong Municipal Board.
