UDP Chief Welcomes Meghalaya CM’s Talks with Assam to Resolve Lapangap Tensions

SHILLONG: The State Minister and President of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Metbah Lyngdoh, has expressed his satisfaction with the steps taken by the Chief Minister of Meghalaya to initiate talks with the Chief Minister of Assam to bring peace and resolve the ongoing unrest in the Lapangap area.

​Speaking to media persons, Metbah stated that the recent situation in the border area is a law and order matter, which is being closely monitored and examined by the Home Department.

He acknowledged that this is a major grievance that the residents of the Lapangap area are currently facing, emphasizing that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that any issues arising from this border dispute are completely resolved.

​He further added that the entire government has taken numerous steps to address this border issue with Assam in order to bring security to the public. He stressed the importance of ensuring that there is no further harassment, atrocities, or unrest that could affect humanity and society as a whole.

​It may be recalled that the Lapangap area, located in West Jaintia Hills, has been facing significant difficulties in carrying out farming and agricultural activities due to disruptions caused by the Karbi community from Tapat village. Regarding this matter, the Government of Meghalaya is continuing its dialogue with the Government of Assam to restore peace and tranquility to the region.
