SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has stated that there is a noticeable daily decline and erosion in the support base of the Voice of the People Party (VPP) across the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region, attributing this trend to the general public beginning to realize the ground reality.

Speaking to media persons, Dhar expressed strong optimism that National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Dr. D.R.L. Nonglait will secure a resounding victory in the upcoming bye-election for the Shillong Parliamentary seat, backed heavily by the overwhelming support of the citizens.

He noted that the party is highly confident this time around because of the visible surge in public backing for the NPP candidate.

Dhar further emphasized that the party’s core strategy has been to work tirelessly on all fronts. He expressed his deep gratitude to all the NPP unit-level workers across various constituencies who have been putting in immense effort on the ground, adding that all signs and indicators point toward a very strong performance by the party in this crucial election.

Commenting specifically on recent developments in Nongkrem, where VPP supporters reportedly crossed over to join the NPP, the Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that the VPP’s declining momentum is evident across the entire region.

He stated that he has personally witnessed a drop in the number of VPP supporters not only in the Jaintia Hills but also on a daily basis throughout the Khasi Hills.

Dhar concluded by saying that this steady daily decrease in VPP’s popularity across both Khasi and Jaintia Hills is a direct result of people finally understanding the truth of the situation.
