SHILLONG: Cabinet Minister and BJP MLA Sanbor Shullai launched a sharp attack on the Congress party and its I.N.D.I. alliance partners, accusing them of fabricating falsehoods to engineer panic and destabilize public trust following the recent full Election Commission meeting.
Highlighting that the state of Meghalaya is currently carrying out the Special Summary Revision (SIR) exercise, Shullai asserted that the opposition’s political rhetoric stands thoroughly exposed before the public.
He urged citizens across the state to remain vigilant and avoid falling victim to what he termed as malicious political propaganda.
Emphasizing the integrity of the electoral body, Shullai pointed out that all three Election Commissioners operated with complete and officially recorded consensus on every major decision taken during the meeting.
He questioned the motive behind the opposition’s persistent campaign of misinformation and reiterated that the SIR exercise remains a vital measure to prevent illegal immigrants from obtaining voting rights in Meghalaya.
Furthermore, he noted that the statutory declaration attached to Form-6 for the SIR process has been thoroughly scrutinized and upheld by the Supreme Court of India, raising questions about whether the Congress and its allies are challenging the highest judicial authority under the guise of protecting democracy.
Shullai further criticized the Congress for establishing a habitual pattern of undermining key constitutional and national entities whenever faced with political setbacks.
He cited previous instances where the party targeted independent institutions, questioned the credibility of Electronic Voting Machines, raised doubts over defense contracts and the armed forces, and attacked the National Security Advisor.
The minister stated that the electorate in Meghalaya has repeatedly rejected the opposition, affirming that the public will stand firmly with factual integrity rather than negative political agendas aimed at creating social disruption.
