SHILLONG: The Directorate of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Government of Meghalaya, conducted a workshop on the Price Monitoring System at the Secretariat on Tuesday, aiming to bolster price surveillance, prevent hoarding, and safeguard consumer interests.
The workshop brought together officials from across Meghalaya’s districts and sub-divisions to review existing price monitoring mechanisms and discuss challenges faced during field implementation.
Minister-in-Charge Methodius Dkhar emphasized the government’s duty to monitor essential commodity prices and protect consumers—especially vulnerable households—from undue price hikes.
He stressed that effective and timely reporting from Price Monitoring Centres is crucial for tracking trends and enabling prompt government action.

Dkhar acknowledged the difficulties faced by officials in remote areas, particularly communication challenges, and encouraged open discussion to improve the system’s effectiveness.
The presence of officials from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, provided an opportunity for state officials to seek clarifications and raise field-level concerns.
Presentations on reporting and monitoring requirements were made by Assistant Director Smt. Radhika Goyal and Senior Statistical Officer Shri Sandeep Kumar.
An interactive session allowed district officials to share experiences and address challenges in commodity price monitoring.
The event was attended by Commissioner and Secretary Pravin Bakshi, IAS, the Department Director, and other key participants.
