SHILLONG: Two Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) leaders walked out of Shillong District Jail on the evening of October 29, bringing a major boost to the union as legal efforts yield further results.
The released leaders are Banjoplang Dkhar, President of the Shillong Mihngi Circle, and Sameul Kharbani, General Secretary.
Both had been arrested following disturbances during a Black Flag Bike Rally organized by the KSU on August 19, 2026.
A gathering of KSU leaders and members warmly received them upon their release outside the district jail.
Speaking on the development, former KSU General Secretary Donald V. Thabah stated that on October 23, 2026, the union had earlier secured the release of President Raymond Kharjana and General Secretary Rueben A. Najiar, and they have now successfully secured the release of these two Shillong Mihngi Circle leaders, bringing the total number of bailed members to four.
The remaining two individuals still facing legal proceedings are Vice President Pynkmen Sanmiet, who is currently out on a 20-day interim bail, and Jeremiah Pohthmi, President of the KSU Nongmensong Unit.
While the trial continues and lawyers will provide detailed briefings on the case, the union is actively pursuing bail for the remaining members as well.
