SHILLONG: On Wednesday, hundreds of lawyers rallied in Shillong, uniting against Advocate General Amit Kumar.
Organized by the High Court Bar Association and the Shillong Bar Association, this protest came just before a crucial meeting with the Chief Minister on October 7.
Secretary General Kishore Gautam expressed the legal community’s frustration over Kumar’s continued court appearances, despite assurances from the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister that he would not appear.
His attempts to raise concerns directly with the Chief Minister were met with silence, highlighting a worrying disregard for accountability.

The primary demand is clear: the immediate removal of Amit Kumar.
Gautam questioned why the government prioritizes one individual over the collective grievances of the legal community.
This rally was a show of unity and determination, and the Bar leadership warned of escalating actions if their demands go unmet, signaling that their call for change must be taken seriously.
