Mawmluh Cherra Cements Employees Demand Release of Pending Third Instalment

The MCCEU has appealed to the government to address their concerns and expedite the release of the pending instalment

SHILLONG: The Mawmluh Cherra Cements Employees Union (MCCEU) have expressed concern over the delay in the release of the third instalment due to employees, stating that the payment has yet to be disbursed by the government.

Addressing the media at the Shillong Press Club, MCCEU President Pynskhem Lyngdoh said the union recently held a general meeting to deliberate on key issues affecting employees of Mawmluh Cherra Cements Limited (MCCL). He informed that detailed discussions were held on the pending instalment, and the union has also taken up the matter with local representatives, urging them to expedite the release of the funds.
Lyngdoh said the union is disappointed that their efforts have not yielded any concrete outcome so far. He added that the union had met the Chief Minister and appealed for early release of the instalment. While the Chief Minister assured that efforts would be made, the issue remains unresolved.
He further stated that the employees are considering issuing a notice to the government to remind it of its commitments.
The union also urged the government to release the pending salaries of contractual workers and trainees, who have not received their dues. Lyngdoh said that although such workers may not be covered under certain schemes, clearing their pending payments would provide much-needed relief.
Highlighting the impact of earlier disbursements, he said the first two instalments had benefited employees, with some starting small ventures such as homestays, particularly in Sohra, a well-known tourist destination.
He stressed the need for government support to contractual workers and trainees through schemes or employment opportunities, noting that many of them have been serving since 2008 and have families to support.
The MCCEU has appealed to the government to address their concerns and expedite the release of the pending instalment and salaries at the earliest.
