MLCU Celebrates 19th Convocation

SHILLONG: Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) marked its 19th Convocation at the Lariti Performing Centre, New Shillong, celebrating student achievements and unveiling a new university emblem and motto: “We Dare. We Rise.”

The event brought together graduates, faculty, families, and distinguished guests.

The ceremony, opened with multi-faith readings and addresses by Chancellor Glenn C Kharkongor and Vice Chancellor Ashiho A Mao, honored Dr. Sandi Syiem with a Lifetime Achievement Award, conferred an Honorary Doctorate on Mr. S K Bose, and presented an Honorary Post-Doctoral Fellowship to Dr. Abdullah Saif Ahmed Al-Sabahi.

Sampath Kumar, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary

Chief Guest Sampath Kumar, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya, praised MLCU’s contribution to indigenous education and urged graduates to embrace lifelong learning, new technologies, and early childhood development.

Convocation Speaker and journalist P. Sainath addressed growing social and economic inequalities, the ethical implications of Artificial Intelligence, and the importance of preserving India’s linguistic and cultural diversity.

He called on graduates to engage with constitutional principles of justice and to confront social injustices.

The event included degree and diploma awards, responses from graduate representatives Baiahun Pahsyntiew and Bivek Kumar Singh, the Graduates Pledge, musical performances, the release of a Special MLCU Cover by India Post, and Distinguished Alumni Awards.

The celebration concluded with Aurora Borealis, featuring live music and influencer awards.
