SHILLONG: United Democratic Party (UDP) President and Cabinet Minister Metbah Lyngdoh has firmly rejected recent media reports suggesting internal discord and possible defections among UDP legislators.
Lyngdoh emphasized that speculation remains mere speculation, stating that the party will issue formal statements only based on verified facts.
Addressing claims that UDP MLAs secretly traveled to Delhi, Guwahati, and Kolkata for political negotiations, Lyngdoh clarified that his own travel was purely for official business and that he had remained in direct contact with all party legislators.
“None of the MLAs have expressed any intent to leave the alliance or pursue political realignments,” he said, adding that all recent matters have been clarified and internal unity remains strong.

Lyngdoh explained that four legislators traveled to Kolkata for personal family reasons unrelated to politics and dismissed rumors of party leaders negotiating deals in Guwahati.
He confirmed that most UDP MLAs are in Shillong and that no one is attempting to exit the party.
Reaffirming the party’s internal trust and unity, Lyngdoh urged the media to verify facts before publishing stories, warning against the spread of misleading narratives.
