SHILLONG: The State Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Meghalaya, continued its aggressive crackdown on drug trafficking with two successful intelligence-based operations on August 10, leading to the seizure of 32.64 grams of heroin valued at approximately ₹5 lakh.

Acting on credible intelligence, the ANTF set up checkpoints at strategic locations in the Umiam area to intercept suspected traffickers heading towards Shillong.

In the first operation, a vehicle (AS-01-AV-1166) was intercepted at Lad Umiam. The occupant, Allan Marwein of Mawlai Nongkwar, Block-13, Shillong, was searched in the presence of independent witnesses, resulting in the recovery of one soap case containing 10.93 grams of heroin.

Later that night, another intelligence input led to the interception of a Scooty (ML-05-AB-9546) attempting to evade the NAKA at Umiam.

The rider, Jaziel Nongjop Syiem, was detained and searched as per legal protocol. Two soap cases containing 21.71 grams of heroin were found concealed in his jacket.

All contraband was seized in accordance with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and both accused were arrested for further legal action.

With these two operations, the State ANTF has seized over 80 grams of heroin in the last three days and arrested four notorious drug traffickers, reflecting intensified enforcement against interstate drug trafficking networks.

These sustained enforcement efforts are part of the Meghalaya Police’s broader strategy to curb narcotics and safeguard the youth of the state.
