SHILLONG: The District Election Office (DEO), East Khasi Hills, on Wednesday officially released the Draft Electoral Rolls during a function held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Shillong.
Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Abhilash Baranwal, IAS, commended the dedicated efforts of the entire election machinery—including Booth Level Officers (BLOs), BLO Supervisors, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs)—for completing the intensive electoral roll revision exercise within a month.
He noted that the district-wide exercise was carried out with diligence and efficiency, ensuring that electors received comprehensive support throughout the process.
Baranwal highlighted that, while BLOs were primarily responsible for distributing and collecting forms, many went above and beyond their duties by personally visiting households, assisting voters with filling out forms, and addressing their concerns regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. Their efforts, he said, not only ensured the successful completion of the exercise but also inspired public confidence.
The District Election Officer expressed gratitude to all political parties for their cooperation, which ensured the smooth conduct of the revision exercise.
He noted that only minor issues arose and were promptly resolved through mutual understanding.
He also acknowledged the important role played by Booth Level Agents (BLAs) in assisting both electors and BLOs during the process.
Baranwal credited the milestone achievement to the collective cooperation of all stakeholders and thanked everyone for their commitment to the electoral process.
Earlier, the Assistant Systems Engineer presented an overview of the upcoming stages in the electoral roll revision. The DEO urged electors and political party representatives to approach BLOs and election officials with any doubts or queries, assuring that the election machinery remains available for clarification and assistance.
The District Election Office expressed confidence that the same level of cooperation from all stakeholders would continue in the forthcoming stages of the revision process.
The Draft Electoral Rolls were subsequently handed over to representatives of all political parties for reference.
The period for filing claims and objections will run from August 5 to September 4, and the final publication of the Electoral Rolls is scheduled for October 7, 2026.
