SHILLONG: Two alleged drug traffickers were arrested and suspected heroin weighing 112.52 grams, valued at around Rs 60 lakh in the illicit market, was seized during a joint operation by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Meghalaya, and West Garo Hills police at Tikrikilla on Saturday.
According to an official statement issued by ANTF Superintendent of Police Vikash Kumar, the operation was carried out based on credible intelligence inputs.
During the operation, the team recovered 10 plastic soap boxes containing suspected heroin.
Two vehicles and three mobile phones were also seized.
The arrested individuals were identified as Shahadot Ali (31), son of Rustom Ali, and Rejaul Islam (31), son of Joynal Abidin, both residents of Goalpara district in Assam.
A case has been registered at Tikrikilla Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The ANTF suspects that the duo may be linked to a larger inter-state drug trafficking network.
Investigations are underway to establish the network’s forward and backward linkages.
The ANTF has urged members of the public to share any information relating to drug trafficking and those involved in the illegal trade, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
It also announced that suitable rewards would be provided for credible information.
