UDP’s V. G. Kynta Set for Decisive Win in Shillong Seat, Says Kyrmen Shylla

UDP currently has 12 MLAs across the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region, which serves as a major advantage for the party in this election.

SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) MLA, Kyrmen Shylla, has expressed immense confidence that the party’s candidate, V. G. Kynta, will secure a decisive victory as the Member of Parliament (MP) from the Shillong Parliamentary Constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha by-election.

Focusing on the political strength of the party, Shylla pointed out that the UDP currently has 12 MLAs across the Khasi and Jaintia Hills region, which serves as a major advantage and a strong foundation for the party in this election.

He asserted that if these 12 UDP MLAs, along with the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) under the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) banner, work hard together, there is absolutely no doubt about the victory of the UDP candidate. He also reminded that there are a total of 14 representatives working together within the alliance, which will make it a formidable and exciting contest among the alliance parties.

Regarding the resignation of Robertjune Kharjahrin from the party, Shylla clarified that this decision was entirely based on Kharjahrin’s personal choice and feelings, and the UDP was not the reason behind his resignation. He maintained that Kharjahrin cannot blame the party for this matter, adding that he did not wish to comment any further on the specific details of the resignation.

Furthermore, concerning the functioning of the government, the MLA emphasized the importance of supporting the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, stating that this reflects the unity and strength of the coalition. He noted that if there are internal divisions within the MDA, it will only project the weakness of the government, which is why it is essential to work cooperatively since all alliance partners stand united.

On the subject of the Lok Sabha election itself, Shylla remarked that if political parties are not confident about winning, he does not think they would field candidates at all. It is precisely because the party has full faith and hope of winning that they have set up their candidate, and everyone must work hard to ensure victory.

He recalled that every party puts in maximum effort to win their respective seats, and the UDP is competing with the same intensity this time because it is crucial to earn the trust of the public so that they can secure reliable support from the people in the future. As a representative of his constituency, he expressed firm belief and certainty that the public will fully support the UDP candidate, adding that he expects similar backing from both rural and urban constituencies.

In terms of support from the HSPDP, Shylla confirmed that as of now, they remain united and are hopeful that the alliance partner will support the UDP candidate under the RDA banner.

He further informed that a clearer and more detailed picture will emerge soon, as a meeting will be held among the party Presidents to discuss and finalize the matter, thereby strengthening the foundation of their electoral cooperation for the upcoming polls.
